ABOUT US
Elemer A. Henderson: A Johns Hopkins Partnership School, also known as Henderson Hopkins, is a Title 1 school located in east Baltimore. At our school our students proudly wear uniforms that state our schools name. Last year, we moved into a brand new building, the design of which is LEED silver equivalent. We are privileged to have the opportunity to mold our activities in this new building to meet our needs. We have plenty of space for innovating green learning in our outdoor educational terraces. We have begun wonderful annual green routines including going to North Bay and celebrating Earth Day, which we have done for 6 years strong.
At Henderson Hopkins we have been dedicated to enriching the lives of our students by bringing experiences surrounding nature, the environment and healthy living to the urban landscape. What makes our mission especially important is that over 90% of our students receive free and reduced lunch. It is crucial for all of our young learners to experience the rewards that come with learning about nature and a healthy environment and healthy living habits. In teaching "green" themes we have found that the essence of what we are promoting is a positive outlook on the impact our students can make in the world at-large.
By forming a 4th grade and 7th grade student- driven Green Team, the students have been able to tackle large ideas. Our student groups have generated school-wide recycling missions and contributed to efforts that meet our schools values of S.O.A.R; Strive for Excellence, Originate Ideas, Achieve our goals and Respect ourselves and our community. The students' work on "going green" have created a strong foundation for bringing a love of the environment and respect for the community by leading by example. We hope that by becoming a recognized Green School we can generate more conversation community-wide and our students will see their effort are also recognized formally.
We are SOARing Green at Henderson Hopkins!
